Tulsi, also known as Holy Basil, is a revered and sacred herb from India, used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine as a wellness tonic. There are several types of plant varietals of Tulsi, named after figures in Hindu mythology. For this Chai, we use three main kinds of Tulsi - Purple Leaf (Krishna), Green Leaf (Rama) and Wild Forest (Vana).
Microbrewed with warming spices. In India it is a favorite calming, restorative and rejuvenating Chai.
Tulsi and Wellness
Helps reduce stress - an adaptogen; calming; Supports metabolism.
Sweetened with Blue Agave
We use organic blue agave to sweeten the brew. Agave is known to have a much lower glycemic index than evaporated cane juice.
A First in the Industry
We are proud to offer the first line of bottled Tulsi teas and Tulsi Chai concentrate in the United States. Our project started a few years ago, when we contracted small scale farmers to grow organic Tulsi for us in India. Our project continues to provide employment and marketing opportunities for Tulsi farmers.
Since 1997, we have been serving freshly brewed Chai to visitors at our teahouses in Portland, Oregon. More recently, we have built a tea brewery dedicated to the art of pure leaf teas. Our Chai batches are small, made fresh and with attention to detail. We welcome you to visit us and meet our Chaiwallas.
For Tulsi Chai concentrate, we recommend:
2 parts concentrate, 1 part milk/non dairy. Enjoy warm or iced.
Shelf stable for 365 days after production date. Refrigerate after opening.
