Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum) also known as Holy Basil, is an ancient Ayurvedic herb, and one of roughly 60 species of the genus Ocimum, or Basil. Most varieties are native to India, including the foothills of the Himalayas and are also found throughout the Middle East. There are three types of Tulsi mentioned in Ayurvedic texts: Rama (Green Leaf) Tulsi, Krishna (Purple Leaf) Tulsi and Vana (Wild Forest) Tulsi.
Although all three types of Tulsi have their uses in Ayurveda, Rama and Krishna are the most widely used. Tulsi contains antioxidants and is an adaptogen (helps improve resistance to stress and fatigue).

assurance for their harvests. As such, we provide up-front guarantees to purchase their produce and help sell it through
a market-education development approach. As we grow, we envision our ability to help more small-scale and marginal Organic farmers in this process. Most Tulsi is still grown conventionally and the transition to Organics is recent. We hope to be among the few Tulsi companies that are in the forefront of this movement.
Helping Educate Underprivileged Children
A portion of our proceeds is donated to 'Sikhya' - a free school for homeless, underprivileged children in Northern India. Although the school is funded by a non-profit trust and is the brain child of Dr. Gurpreet Singh, a well known Industrialist in India, this is our small way to contribute and be part of its mission. Herbal teas with light, delicate blossoms or leaves require somewhat shorter steeping times and lower temperatures than other heartier herbs. We recommend using 1 teasbag per 8oz of near boiling water (180 to 200 F) and steeping 3 to 5 minutes. This provides a sweeter, better tasting brew while repeated infusions allow you to extract all the nutritional and medicinal benefits from the herb.
Herbal teas can be brewed in porcelain, ceramic, glass, or stainless steel but never in aluminum or other harmful materials. Be sure to cover the cup or teapot while steeping to prevent the loss of fragrant essential oils and other therapeutic and nutritional elements.
